Underworld Conspiracy – The Great Escape Game Leeds

* I clearly didn’t get the mask memo!*

Our next room on our escape room binge was a slightly more creepy themed room called “Underworld Conspiracy” The aim of the game was as follows:

Throughout history, the bravest have dared to go further. They risk their lives and by doing so, they become immortal.
You and your team of adventurers are on the brink of unearthing secrets of unimaginable power. Mysteries, which for nearly 1,000 years a clandestine, powerful elite known as the New World Order have been searching for. The N.W.O has created a blueprint for world domination, with the goal of bringing the entire world to it’s knees. You now know the location of the missing object, lost deep in the depths of the underworld.
You set out pursuing adventure, but this time the adventure  has found you. You have a head start, but time is slipping through your fingertips.
This is where our story ends and your adventure begins. Can you enter The Underworld and retrieve it’s secrets before it is too late?

This time, we were put into a small briefing room where we were given a series of character options for us each to choose who we wanted to be. Each character had a different role e.g one provided the light source, the other gave the group 5 minutes extra time, etc, which I thought was such a cool twist. I can’t exactly remember the names now, but we decided to use the character who is given a book of information to memorise, a clue to how many puzzles there are in the game, a choice of one of three bags which may contain a useful item, and a light source. The other options felt like too much of a clue for us stubborn lot to take!

We were blindfolded upon entering the room, which added to the creepiness. The room was themed to resemble a graveyard, with tombstones and low level lighting. The room was fairly linear, with lots of padlocks which led to the next part of the room. There were appropriate sound effects when we unlocked a new part of the game which was a nice touch. Communication was essential and made more difficult by certain barriers at some points, but everything made sense and flowed well. The puzzles involved using directions, decoding symbols and a couple of maths based problems too. We had no pen or paper but the maths was (thankfully) manageable. Of course, it was very dark which made it difficult to unlock the locks at times, but it wasn’t too bad.

Highlight of the game:

I enjoyed the characterisation and it made us all feel like we had an important role within the group.

Any drawbacks?

I will say that the room is quite small so I would not recommend a larger group despite it being technically a harder room.

Overall Opinion

Again it was a new theme for me so it was interesting. By way of puzzles there wasn’t anything particularly outstandingly different to anything I had played before, but it was still fun to solve. Our host was also quite impressed with how quickly we had solved one part of the game despite us thinking it was quite easy.
